PEO Is Now PAE: Re-Map Your Federal Buyers
DoD is replacing Program Executive Offices with Portfolio Acquisition Executives. Here's what that means for companies pursuing their first federal contract.

If your federal target list still says "PEO," it may already be out of date.
The Defense Department is replacing its Program Executive Offices (PEOs) with Portfolio Acquisition Executives (PAEs). Mindy (getmindy.ai) counts 17 portfolios for the Air Force, 9 for the Navy, and 6 for the Army.
That's more than a new name. It changes who buys what.
What it means for commercial service companies
If you run a commercial IT or service company that's thinking about government work:
- Office names and contact lists you saved go stale.
- Saved searches may stop finding the right opportunities.
- The person who bought what you sell last year may now sit in a different portfolio.
What to do now
Re-map now. Find the portfolio that actually buys what you do, who the buyers are there, and how they like to be approached. Then point your outreach there.
From my military experience as the government customer, and then decades on the contractor side, I have seen this play out. Every reorganization I lived through rewarded the companies that adjusted first.
